Eine Wahl, die eine wäre, setzte voraus, dass man eine Wahl hätte. Man hat sie nicht. Man wählt entweder eine Regierung, die Jugoslawien bombardiert hat oder eine Regierung, die Jugoslawien bombardiert hätte. Auch falls man nicht wählt oder ungültig wählt (das sind die beiden Möglichkeiten, die mir in den Sinn kämen, wenn ich in Deutschland wählen dürfte), endet die Wahl mit der Angelobung einer Regierung, die: siehe oben. Was sagt man in Fällen wie diesem? So fucking what.

Das erste Mal las ich davon in Maria McErlanes Kolumne für die Style Section der Londoner Sunday Times a, 18. August:

In some parts of Hollywood it's the new craze to have your anus area bleached blonde.  Why? Strands can be found all over the world, in gutters, snagged on trees, wherever tape players have ventured it seems they have chewed, snarled and spat too.

These fragments create a shifting inaudible soundscape that goes unnoticed. Some of the strands have travelled far, they are worn and battered but with careful attention and re-spooling, succumb to listening.

The fact that music can cross boundaries is well known, but this is physical, it really does.

Magnetic Migration Music made a tape gathering trip to the Pas de Calais in France, a migration bottleneck of Europe where the Red Cross set up the Sangatte camp for asylum seekers. Thousands of refugees find themselves at Sangatte next to the channel tunnel and the ferry terminals as they aim west towards the UK. During the trip 16 migrating tapes were picked up. Audio interviews were also made with asylum seekers and other travellers who were in the area as well as soundscape recordings. Radiophonic work will be made mixing the found and recorded sounds, these will also be available on the site.

Fehler begangen, Literaturen gekauft, wegen des Hannah Arendt-Covers. Hätte gleich im Bahnhofskiosk den Teaser lesen sollen, der hätte schon klargemacht, was einen da erwartet, die Kursivierungen stammen von mir.

Hannah Arendt polarisiert. Das eingreifende Denken, die treffenden Analysen, das nonkonformistische Verhalten der deutsch-jüdischen Philosophin (1906–1975) begeistern wie verstören gleichermaßen. Auch heute noch, 27 Jahre nach ihrem Tod, fordert sie eine doppelte Lesart heraus: die konservative und die fortschrittliche.

Arendt war unbequem in ihrer Untersuchung der «Banalität des Bösen» und der Ursprünge des Totalitarismus, deshalb wollten weder West noch Ost sie während des Kalten Krieges für sich beanspruchen. Erst seit 1989 wird sie allmählich wieder entdeckt. Viele Kongresse und neuere Publikationen stellen die Meisterdenkerin ins Zentrum – während man auf eine Gesamtausgabe immer noch warten muss.

Immerhin, Anfang Oktober erscheint die Edition ihres «Denktagebuchs», womit die letzte große Publikationslücke im Werk der Autorin geschlossen wird. Der Philosoph Dieter Thomä hat es für Literaturen gelesen und darin einen spektakulären Schatz entdeckt: Der Kategorie der Leidenschaft in Arendts Denken muss ein neuer Stellenwert beigemessen werden. Hannah Arendt ist widersprüchlich – auch als Frau, pendelnd zwischen den Rollen der Geliebten und der traditionellen Ehefrau. Sie hat berühmten Philosophen ihrer Zeit den Kopf verdreht, vor allem: Martin Heidegger. Dass sie sich dabei selbst die Treue hielt, darüber schreibt Hanna Leitgeb. Wie sehr diese Frau provoziert, spiegelt sich auch im Literaturen-Gespräch mit Daniel Cohn-Bendit und Hans Mommsen, die über Arendts Werk und dessen Rezeption in Deutschland streiten. Und es zeigt sich an den Statements zur Bedeutung ihrer Politischen Philosophie, um die Literaturen drei der heute namhaftesten Vertreter des Faches gebeten hat: Michael Walzer, Slavoj Zizek und Axel Honneth. In welchem Maße ihr politisches Denken nach wie vor aktuell ist, untersucht der Historiker Christian Geulen.
